When things don't go as planned...

Hello my friends! I just wanted to give you a little update now that I'm feeling better and can get back to work. A week and a half ago, this was me:
Super flattering, right?! I was suffering from extremely bad neck pain, headache, sore throat, fever, chills, and even a little bout of vomitting. When things got particularly bad I decided to call the local health helpline and they advised that I get myself to a doctor right away. So I called my bestie (as my husband was at work) and she took me in to urgent care. I was in urgent care for a few hours with an IV and some morphine to help with the pain when they sent me by ambulance to the hospital.

Once I arrived at the hospital the doctors assessed my situation and let me know that they thought I likely had meningitis. Well that sounded scary! They put me in isolation, and everyone who came into my room had to wear what only can be described as a hazmat type outfit.
To test for meningitis they have to insert a needle into your back and extract some spinal fluid. Yes, it's as painful as it sounds. Especially since my spine has had several injuries and they couldn't locate the spinal fluid - even after trying for 2.5 hours. That was a painful 2.5 hours. Finally they called in a specialist and he got the fluid by using a live x-ray to assist.

Then it was time for the waiting game. I was admitted into the hospital in an isolation room and pumped full of antibiotics and steroids until my meningitis test results came back. In the meantime they also discovered that I had pneumonia! No wonder I wasn't feeling too awesome.

After nearly 5 days in the hospital, I was finally released. My meningitis tests were negative, but I still needed antibiotics and lots of rest for the pneumonia.

So I'm feeling TONS better and have an exciting few blog posts coming up, so stay tuned!

  1. When you didn't post for a while, I thought you were on a little summer vacation. I never would have guessed the real reason behind your absence. So sorry you were so ill (especially having to endure the spinal tap), but glad you are on the mend. Keep getting better!! Sending hugs and healing wishes.
